Richmal Crompton wrote thirty-eight William books and numerous short stories over the span of forty-five years. Most of the stories were originally published on a monthly basis by various periodicals like Happy Mag, Modern Woman and Home Notes. Very few stories were tied together, even though they were collected and published in the same book, with some notable exceptions like ‘The Wrong Party’ and ‘Revenge is Sweet’ from William – the Conqueror. Some books were reissued under different titles (William and the Evacuees issued as William – the Film Star), while some new collections were created using stories from books published earlier (William at War).
This section of this website attempts to catalogue all of these books and the original source(s) of the stories they contain. If you come across other reissues/repackaged collections that are not mentioned here, please add them in the comments below.
